eligibility

Admission to TRIDENT is open to those who fulfill a and either b (i) or b (ii) of the requirements listed below.

a ) Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of matriculation(※1)
b )(i) Those who have completed 12 or more years of schooling in regular courses outside Japan. Or those whose scholastic abilities are equivalent to or greater than that of a high school graduate in Japan as required by the Japanese Ministry of Education.
(ii) Those whose scholastic abilities are regarded by the Dean of Trident College as equivalent to that mentioned in (i).
※ However, those who want to do further study at special schools or universities must fulfill (i).
(※1)Students are expected, but not required to be under 30 years of age at the time of matriculation.

※When there are no spaces-available, we will stop accepting applications.
※Please note that the application deadline might be changed, when the Immigration Bureau changes the certificate of eligibility application deadline.

Office Hours 9:00~18:00(except for Saturdays, Sundays & Holidays)

※Please apply earlier than the deadline, in case the documents are insufficient or are required to be corrected as it may take more than 1 month for applicants to gather and submit all required documents.
※For applicants who do not need to get student residence status, please refer to “APPLICANTS RESIDING IN JAPAN ”.

Application Procedure
  1. Applying to TRIDENT Admissions Office
    The guarantor should submit application documents listed below together with the Application Fee directly to TRIDENT Admissions Office. An appointment is needed.
    • If the remitter of expenses is living in Japan, the remitter must be the guarantor.
    • All documents completed in a language other than English are required to be translated into Japanese on separate pieces of paper and attached to the originals. (The translation should not be written on the original paper.)
    • The guarantor must be a person who knows the applicant well and assures the applicant will abide by all laws and regulations of Japan and the rules of the school.
  2. Applying to a liaison office designated by TRIDENT
    The applicants should submit necessary documents listed below together with the Application Fee to the office. Please ask the TRIDENT Admissions Office about the designated office.
  3. Applying to TRIDENT by e-mail and air-mail
    Depending on nationality, some applicants can apply to TRIDENT directly from overseas by e-mail and air-mail. Please ask for details.

Applicants are selected through screening the submitted documents and by interview.

  2. Purpose of Study and List of Any Prior Visits to Japan (Trident-designated form and only in applicant’s own handwriting)
  3. Copies of Passport (only for those who have one)
    • Copies are required of pages containing personal data and all pages with stamps and/or anything mentioned.
  4. 7 Copies of Applicant's Photograph [40㎜ long×30㎜ wide] (7, including the one attached to the application form. All 7 copies should be the same.)
  5. Diploma or Graduation Certificate of Last School Attended (Original only)

    • You must submit your University Certificate of Registrations and your High School Graduation Certificate.
    • [If applicants are expected to graduate from High School]
    • You must submit your Certificate of Expected Graduation when you apply. After graduation, you must submit your Diploma or Graduation Certificate immediately.

necessary documents for remitters of expenses

  • Regarding Remitters of Expenses

When getting student residence status, it is important to screen not only the applicant’s learning ability or studying purpose in Japan, but also to certify that the financial situation of the remitter is stable while paying the applicant’s expenses necessary for study in Japan.
We require the remitters of expenses living in Japan to submit various documents about financial support, and also to assume all responsibility regarding the applicant, such as making sure the applicant is studying, anything regarding the applicant’s residence, guidance for further education or civic guidance.

[A]Expenses will be paid by the applicant himself/herself:
  1. Letter of Payment (Trident-designated form and only in applicant’s own handwriting)
  2. Certificate of Bank Balance of the Applicant
  3. Certificate of Proof of Employment of the Applicant
  4. Certificate of Income of the Applicant
[B]Expenses are paid by a close family member (parent, grand-parent, brother or sister) of the applicant living abroad:
  1. Letter of Support(TRIDENT-designated form and only in remitter's own handwriting)
  2. Documents proving the relationship between the applicant and the remitter
    Certificate of family relationship and the certificate of resident registration (Korea)
    A copy of the family register (Taiwan)
    Notarized certificate of relationship (People’s Republic of China, Mainland China)
    Certificate of birth (Other Countries)
  3. Certificate of Bank Balance of the Remitter
  4. Certificate of Proof of Employment of the Remitter
  5. Certificate of Income of the Remitter

[C] Expenses will be paid by the remitter in Japan :
  1. Letter of Support(TRIDENT-designated form and only in remitter's own handwriting)
    • Please write remitter’s gross annual income (written on the Certificate of Inhabitant Taxation) in the space provided on the Letter of Support.
  2. Certificate of Inhabitant Taxation of the Remitter, issued at the City/Ward/Town/Village Office
    The latest taxable income of the payer is needed.
  3. Certificate of Proof of Employment of the Remitter
    • :If remitter is a director, an attested copy of the register of the company would be required.
    • :If remitter is supporting by his/her own, the Final Declaration countersigned by the Tax Office would be required.
  4. Resident Card of Remitter (All members with lineal relations to the family should be mentioned)
    • :If remitter is a foreigner and/or foreigners are living together, all Certificates of Confirmation of Alien Registration are needed.
  5. Certificate of Bank Balance of the Remitter
  6. Documents proving the relationship between the applicant and the remitter
    • [ If remitter is a close family member (parent, grand-parent, brother or sister)]
    • Certificate of family relationship and the certificate of resident registration (Korea)

      4. Papers explaining the relationship between the business partner of remitter and applicant's parentage
      5. A relationship tree covering both remitter and applicant

OTHER NECESSARY DOCUMENTS-APPLICANTS WHO POSSESS ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CITIZENSHIPS MUST SUBMIT-

※An applicant who is a citizen from the People’s Republic of China (Mainland China), Union of Myanmar, People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mongolia, Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Socialist Republic of Vietnam, or the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal should submit the following documents.

[A]NECESSARY DOCUMENTS FOR APPLICANTS
  1. The Certificate of Nationality, Educational Background and Career Information
    [People’s Republic of China (Mainland China)]
    Notarized copies of all family members’ pages of the Household Register in which all information is up to date.
  2. The certificate showing that they have passed The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) of at least level N5 (formerly level 4), certified by The Association of International Education(AIEJ), or documents proving the equivalent.
[B]NECESSARY DOCUMENTS FOR REMITTERS OF EXPENSES LIVING ABROAD
  1. Documents proving the process of acquiring assets and ability of his/her continuous payments (a or b)

    a ) Copy of a bank book in which the process of deposit and savings is shown. (This needs to be notarized.)
    b ) Objective documents proving the income from the previous 3 years issued by the national revenue office.

things to remember when applying

  1. Additional Documents
    In the process of selection, the applicants may sometimes be asked to submit additional papers.
  2. Application Documents, Photographs and the Date of Issue
    For all applicants applying for the course beginning in April, all documents and photographs should be completed/taken after July 1st of the calendar year before entrance; and for those applying for the course beginning in October, all documents and photographs should be completed/taken after January 1st of the calendar year of entrance. (This condition is not applicable for Graduation Certificates/ Diplomas.)
  3. Filling In the Documents (Application Form/ Purpose of Study and List of Any Prior Visits to Japan/ Letter of Support)
    When writing the name of schools or companies, please write the official names. Abbreviation are not allowed. Also, please write the full address. If there is no applicable information to fill in, please write clearly as "not applicable". On all documents, write the dates (day/month/year) in standard international notation of completion. When filling in the application form, please write in English or use Chinese characters.
  4. Filling In the Purpose of Study and List of Any Prior Visits to Japan
    Please explain in complete detail the purpose of studying Japanese, what courses/subjects you want to study after graduation if you intend to enter a higher institution of learning in Japan. Please write all records of past entry into/departure from Japan.
  5. Correcting Mistakes
    For correction, do not use correction fluid. Cross out the mistakes by drawing two lines over them, put the applicant's registered seal (or signature) over the drawn lines, and then write the correct statement in the blank space above them. In the case of too many mistakes, please use a new form.
  6. Attached Translation
    All papers completed in a language other than Japanese or English are required to be attached to separate documents of Japanese or English translation. (The translation should not be written on the original paper.)
    • Please use papers of size A4 (297㎜ long×210㎜ wide).
  7. Others

    ※All application documents are basically non-returnable, with the exception of special ones such as Diplomas/Graduation Certificates, which could never be re-issued. If the applicants want such documents returned, please notify when applying.
    ※If a false statement is found in the application documents, the registration for admission can be annulled, even after admission is granted.
